Bridget Riley was born in London in 1931 and spent most of her childhood in Cornwall. She studied at Goldsmiths and Royal College of Art. Amongst her early achievements was winning the International Prize whilst representing Great Britain at the 34th Venice Biennale in 1968. Bridget has become an internationally recognised and acclaimed artist and her numerous solo exhibitions include retrospectives with shows at the Hayward Gallery (1970 and1992/94), a British Council touring retrospective in the USA, Australia and Japan (1979) and major retrospective exhibitions at Tate Britain (2003), Museum of Modern Art in Sydney, Australia and City Gallery Wellington, New Zealand (2005) and Musee d‘Art moderne de la Ville de Paris (2008). Other activities have included curating exhibitions of Mondrian at the Tate and Paul Klee at the Hayward Gallery, and commissions including the Citibank headquarters in Canary Wharf. She also regularly speaks publicly about her work. In 1974 Bridget was made a CBE and in 11010 was awarded the Companion of Honour. Bridget lives and works in London, France and Cornwall.
